OUR HISTORY

About CSD

Founded in 2006 under the auspices of the Department of Political Sciences at the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences, “Babeș-Bolyai” UniversityCenter for the Study of Democracy (CSD) It is an accredited think-tank and research center with a solid reputation both nationally and internationally. Our main mission is to contribute to the development of a functional democratic society in Romania, through rigorous research, analysis and public policy proposals based on data.

We contribute to the democratic construction in Romania

Our activities focus on a variety of themes that reflect the contemporary complexity of democracy: democratization, fundamental rights, civil society, migration, ethnicity, civic education, institutional design, electoral behavior, energy poverty, public policies, etc.

In addition, the Center has a strong applicative component, working closely with local and central public authorities, the Romanian Parliament, the Presidential Administration and other civil society organizations. Through its work, CSD facilitates a constant interaction between academia, political decision-makers and civil society actors.

THE CENTER FOR DEMOCRATIC STUDIES

Association

Association Center for the Study of Democracy (ACSD) It was created in 2012 to expand the Center’s activity towards applied projects and collaborations with civic organizations, promoting education and democratic citizenship. Since its establishment, ACSD has become a strategic partner in numerous projects funded by international bodies, including the European Commission, Norwegian grants and organizations such as the Romanian American Foundation.

ACSD has developed significantly in various areas of research and is an important partner in projects financed by the European Commission, Norwegian grants and other financings, such as those of the Romanian American Foundation. Internationally, ACSD is part of European and global networks and consortia, including EPH (Energy Poverty Advisory Hub) and Enpower.

The mission of the association


ACSD mission is to contribute to the consolidation of democracy in Romania, through independent research, improving the decision-making process and the promotion of democratic values and active citizenship. Among our main goals are:
  • Carrying out research and surveys relevant to the ACSD mission;
  • community development through the involvement of citizens in the decision-making process;
  • the active involvement of young people in the life of the community;
  • Initiating and encouraging collaborations at local, national and international level;
  • Monitoring democratization and the European integration process.

The association’s activities include:

  • surveys and research activities;
  • consultancy for local, central and international associations and public authorities;
  • training and training for communities and organizations active in democratic construction;
  • advocacy and promotion campaigns;
  • publishing publications and informative materials;
  • organizing seminars, conferences and public debates;
  • Creating new partnerships and networks.

OUR PROJECTS

ACSD sub-centres

The ACSD substructures, such as the Romanian Energy Poverty Observatory (ORSE) and the Civil Society Research Center, significantly expand the area of influence and applicability of the organization’s mission. These sub-centers not only amplify the CSD mission, but also create spaces for learning and collaboration essential for democratic progress and for solving contemporary challenges.

Over the years, the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) has asserted itself as a national and international landmark in applied research and supporting democratic development in Romania. Through rigorous studies and strategic partnerships with public institutions, international organizations and civil society, CSD actively contributes to shaping a functional democratic landscape. Its impact is visible in the development of well-grounded public policies, in the creation of collaborative networks between actors from different sectors and in the promotion of active and informed citizenship.
